1. Satisfy the soul This is a billions of dollars enterprise...

2. Bring nations together Hum like in ISS?

3. Foster commercialization I don't see exactly how this related to a return to the Moon as they state this "reason":

***There is no agreement among scientists over the role private enterprise ought to play in human spaceflight. Yet already, commercial companies help build the machines that carry astronauts into space. Many experts think space tourism and even certain mining and manufacturing will succeed in space if only entrepreneurs are turned loose (and perhaps assisted with federal money or incentives)."Perhaps future space probes will be plastered in commercial logos, just as Formula I racers are now," Rees says. "Perhaps 'robo-wars' in space will be a lucrative spectator sport."***

4. Gather rocks Science? It's this the real reason people like Paul Spudis are pushing a return to the Moon? And is it sufficient in itself?

5. Study catastrophe Grondine would like this one...but no Moon based detection is mentioned...

6. Look outward More science? Still no mention of asteroid detection...what about the dust and the other human activities that would generate more dust...

7. Generate power I'm sorry but generating solar power on the Moon to beam to Earth is nuts is so many ways!

8. Launch industry Using the water on the Moon for fuel? Is this wise?

9. Improve technology This is what we were supposed to have been doing in LEO and with STS and did it work that way? Don't bet on a Moon mission being anything but on the cheap and meaningless to advancing infrastructure or technology.

10. Stepping stone to Mars A load of BS! Want to go to Mars? Then go to Mars! Don't claim going to the Moon is a stepping stone to Mars! That is exactly what was claimed in the sixty during Apollo! For that matter STS and ISS were claimed to be stepping stones to Mars and the Moon...

Where is that most importanat reason...Protecting all of Cislunar Space... From whom? How?
