It is way more complicated than some tenet. A return to the Moon could benifit Mars Exploration it just doesn't seem likely with the non-plan of Bush's crew.
BTW, on Zubrin and me...people can have different views and the same goal. You and I are a case in point.
You shouldn't put all the money on the red it might turn out to be uneconomical to extract water on the Moon and then where are you?
