In june 2001, I went to Delft , Holland, to attend a Mars Society symposium and chatted with Zubrin, Mc Kay and others.
There were lots of people, mostly young.
Exactly one year after, I went to the same place to meet with Jack Schmitt.
We were far fewer people than the year before, older in average but there was a huge level of emotion! A man who has explored another world was right there, close to us.
There, I met with Susmita Mohanti
who told me she was upset that the Mars Society would systematically ignore the Moon while Lunar Explorer Society wasn't fighting against going to Mars.
The thing is: it seems natural to criticize a project for the Moon if one wants to go to Mars. It also seems natural to criticize Moon or Mars projects when one is mainly concerned about going to space or taking advantage of 0G. There is very little room for space advocacy.
It shows humans in space is not a given and it might still, one day, fall out of fashion if robots and cameras become better and better.
