Preaching to the choir, my friend. (Well, some of us are in the choir, anyway.)
Growing up in western Canuckland, I was often furious at the eastern-dominated, left-leaning CBC which, when getting quotes from the average westerner-in-the-street, would invariably run a clip containing a barely coherent comment. I never doubted that it was a completely conscious choice, to make westerners appear to fit the stereotype of ill-informed, uneducated hick. I been away so long I have no idea if they do it anymore, but wouldn't be at all surprised.
Now when I want radio news, I often go to NPR. Yes, they have something of an agenda, but I honestly think they pay more than lip-service to the notion of fair reporting. They've run a number of stories painting US actions in post-war Iraq in a positive light. But, as you say, it should be only one source of many.
