According to Comparison between Mars and Earth Characteristics Mars' average temperature overall is 216 K which is -57 C. It doesn't seem plausible that this nearly matches the equatorial mean. It's also important to indicate whether you are talking about atmospheric or ground temperatures in this context. I think the ground gets warmer and that is the most relevant to microbial life.
