A Reuters classic.

If you have been following tactics in Iraq, you would know that part of such attacks is an organized spreading of such rumors by allies of the attackers. It is too bad that people are willing to accept them so readily, but generally a day or so later, things sort themselves out.

"We heard the sound of a plane overhead and a rocket landed and then a second rocket landed"

"I was sleeping when I heard one rocket and then another."

"The Americans fired one rocket and then another one which exploded."

Doesn't this look a bit like it all came off the same script? Didn't one single Iraqi think the Americans dropped a bomb on them, or fired tank shells? Or threw grenades?

And one wonders how many people Reuters had to interview to get those opinions. I suspect Iraqis who blamed the Baathists or talked about seeing car bombs go off had their interviews quietly spiked. I've been following the way Reuters has been dealing with news from Iraq for some time. Only the BBC has been more biased.
