4 years ago now I was sitting on a bunch of gravel with my back to a big boulder in the Argentinian Andes on Aconcagua at about 14,500 feet. Enjoying the sun, BS-ing with my companions, I pawed through the rocks I was sitting on and around.
I'm no geologist, I've never taked a course in geology, my experience is basically throwing rocks as a kid in the country. Please excuse my ignorance as to what I saw.
Sitting in one place, I found a gray basalt, a conglomerate, a red lava, a black lava, a gray basalt (?) with the imprint of a leaf, a rock with iron ore, a yellowish rock similar in texture to basalt and a rock with quartz crystals.
I thought that was mildly incredible to find in one place, without looking around.
