Just wondering what everyone thinks about the Howard Stern flap.
A couple of things . . .
First of all (nothing to do with the current fracas), when the radio station I listened to in Philly picked up Stern's NY-based radio show in syndication, I said "What the hell does this have to do with anything here?" I've paid as little attention to Stern as I possibly could, ever since.
Second . . . as a child of the '50s and early '60s, and someone who was briefly a radio DJ in the late 60s when the FCC still held a firm hand over acceptible content - got my "First Phone" in 1969; therefore, someone for whom George Carlin's immortal "Seven Words" routine struck home - I've been appalled for some time at what the industry, overall, has sunk to.
I don't ever advocate censorship, but I lament the loss of an earlier, older consensus "community standard". Call me old-fashioned, too.
