re: Warts and all

Robert:

As long as the stuff is saved on any medium and associated with IP addresses, we will forever be accountable to any 'Big Brother Gone Bad' attempt to exploit it. I'm not too worried about that, and if I was- well, tough luck. If you have ever been a roucus 'leftie' dissenter in any medium, then you/we are (all) pretty much screwed if things get that bad in this country. Not to say I don't worry about what will happen to dissent and dissenters in this country if there is another 9-11 (or worse, a 'nuclear 9-11')

My concern is not public-level persection, but private-level. Some of us use our names as handles here, and there is clear association with IP addresses. So prospective private employers, etc, can zoom in on this stuff with a clever google search *IF* it is exposed to google *with* all of our data in association.

Using a private in-board search tool is one way around this. Another is to go ahead and expose the material to google, but also doing the following:
1) Stripping IP's from posts displayed to google
2) Allowing anyone who wants their handle changed to do so- run a script on your files mapping (for example) Tom Brosz to 'DirtyRightistRatfink' and Davin L to 'Dave L' or "MechaRoboLiberal"... The script should be simple...

Davin L.
