When I shared moments with amateurs, I discovered 2 things: very few of them are real professional astronomers; professional ones are asked to do a specific job which often doesn't require them to even look at the sky, which in turn makes them less knowledgeable of the heavens than amateurs. They're experts in their field, but not everywhere.
