If these hearings go the way of Iran/Contra, it will be for the same reason: at the end of the day, there wasn't anything there.
Everything is based on the premise that Clarke--the main focus of all of this--didn't pull a lot of what he said (particularly on 60 Minutes where he wasn't under oath) out of his ass. Contradicting statements from earlier interviews, however you might justify them, are still contradicting statements. Already, a great deal of what he said is based on his "impressions" of what people were thinking. I'm willing to wait and see how this pans out.
