At the university, we were tought Free exam:
(Libre examen)
Free exam is a constructive attitude, a willingness to form ourselves an opinion . It rejects the authority's argument. In science , free exam cannot admit that an authority argument (dogma) can oppose scientific progress.
Le libre examen est le droit naturel de n'accepter comme vrai que ce qu'admet la raison ou l'expÃ©rience, et plus particuliÃ¨rement l'indÃ©pendance d'opinion qui fait repousser le joug de l'autoritÃ© en matiÃ¨re de foi, et examiner les dogmes traditionnels d'aprÃ¨s sa propre raison.

Free exam is the natural right to only accept as true what our reason or experience admits as such and particularly the independance of opinion that pushes back the authority about faith and to examine the traditional dogmas according to our own reason.

Dissertations were also a great way to apply reason!
