Wall Street Journal points out that the economic recovery is getting no respect.
Rant alert: skip if you want.
Failure of the war in Iraq is the last hope of the Democratic Party. In the next few months they, and their media pals, will be in full "Vietnam mode." As with the first stage of the war, look for many, many photos of injured and killed Iraqi civilians. Selective interviews. Tilted perceptions. And pretty much treating al Jazeera as though it actually told the truth.
Objective: as with Vietnam, surrender. Throwing 25 million Iraqis into hell would be a small price to pay for victory in November.
Oh, sure, Kerry makes noises about "staying the course." He's either ignorant, or lying. Ask him how. What will his strategy be?
I'd bet he would make some noises about allies, and bringing other nations into this. Which nations? What's wrong with the ones we've got? Does he know where we can find better fighters?
What will the strategies be of these mythical better allies? How would the French handle the siege of Fallujah? Does Kerry know of allies capable of suppressing insurgents with zero civilian casualties? Allies immune to sniper fire and roadside bombs? Allies who won't haul up stakes and bug out when the going gets rough? If Kerry has the phone number of the Justice League, I wish he'd let the rest of us in on it.
Reporters would stick needles in their own eyeballs before they'd ask Kerry questions like this.
My call? Kerry would pull out of Iraq so fast we'd leave afterimages of tanks behind.
If Kerry wants to say he would never have gone into Iraq, fine. He can make his case. But he shouldn't insult our intelligence by saying he has a way to make the liberation of Iraq work without the problems Bush is having.
The ideal result for the Democrats would be to have the war collapse and America retreat before the election. Kerry has the failure of Iraq to run on, and nobody would ever have to know that he had no better ideas to fix the problem.
