I judge economic progress on how many people are doing well. I think the people who are doing the work ought to get the lion's share of the profits, rewarding them for creating wealth by giving them an appropriate share of it. Why don't you?
Economic progress is not a mere concept to me. It has faces. Many.
Starving to death: that's good. So failure to thrive is OK, as long as no one is sitting in the streets with flies on their eyes, huh? Many chronic diseases, including mental impairments, can be laid at the doorstep of malnutrition. But I guess, if we can't actually breed people to pick up the trash in the parks for the rest of their lives, we can create an environment in which they will develop naturally.
