Pete Stanley quoted from that most excellent blog "Belmont Club" and wrote the following:
>Robert Oppenheimer ... understood at that moment that mankind's
>moral capacity would have to expand to match its technical
>prowess or it would perish.
The technical capacity that provided the Western world with nuclear weapon's technology was the consequence of the Reformation, Renaissance, Humanism and the Scientific Revolution. The Islamic world acquired nuclear weapon's technology because they bought it as a turn key system from the French, Chinese and North Koreans with petro-dollars. An Islamic fundamentalist with a nuclear weapon has much in common with a three year old clutching a live hand grenade. The important difference is the three year old is utterly innocent of its peril while the Islamic fundamentalist wants to kill lots of people and doesn't care if he gets killed in the process. This is an untenable situation. We probably have less than 10 years before millions of people are going to start dying from this. Why aren't more people utterly freaked-out by this?
