re: Paradoxes of war

It's not the war that must be won, but also the peace.
What's going on in Afghanistan is an indication of the problem.

Iraqis want foreign troops out of the country and at the same time need their protection for their safety.

A majority of Iraqis want to have a normal life, a job, take care of their family but there's a minority in the resistance that makes life difficult to everybody. Wasn't that expectable?

New are good according to conservatives, so why are there troops out there?

Bush has a lot of resolve but so do dictators. It 's only a matter as to what is the right direction. It's better to be hesitant and choose the right direction than to be decided and choose the wrong one.

Bush has more support, according to polls, even though he is the one who started it all, who is responsible for the Iraqi and American deaths and wounded. When there's an army, it's country is supporting it no matter what it does in the occupied country, no matter what the occupied people think.

Countless movies or tv series , thoughout the 20th century, show the resistance as the heroic few fighting against the "evil empire" (like Star Wars, Deep Space Nine, etc); in Iraq, roles have been quite reversed!
Or rather, the roles are not exactly what I would have expected, say 5 years ago.

It's very strange that the US could support a president that committed such an infamy (attacking and invading a sovereign country that was no threat, without international support and against international law and common sense).
