"Davin (believe it or not) "
Well, Tom, a sure sign of insanity is to talk to walls, and thats what I feel like political discussions have become here.
Let me put it this way. You believed that there were WMD and Terrorists before the war. Post facto you have performed amazing linguistic contortions to (a) make it sound like it was no big deal that there were none and (b) shift the debate concerning the war from pre-emptive action to avert imminent threat to these amorphous platitudes that are bumper-sticker-esque, like "Standing up to tyrants", and "transforming the middle east" and "Building a bold new tomorrow". I point out that these are selectively applied slogans and you come back with a 'so what'.
Shit is falling apart in Iraq, whole regions are in revolt, dead US soldiers are being danced upon with glee by Iraqi children, the very same folks that were supposed to hurl roses at our feet are hurling firebombs, the death rate of american soldiers has risen to over a hundred a month and you welcome this as a sign that 'the last termites are crawling out of the woodwork in desperation'. Right.
The invasion is out of money and everyone knows it, even republican stalwarts are yelling about it, and yet the idiots (oh, I'm sorry, was that too harsh?) won't ask for more funds until AFTER the election.
There is no viable civilian authority with any backbone at all in Iraq, the US trained, paid and provisioned police officers won't even play secondary and tertiary rols in putting down the civil war thats going on, yet were supposed to 'Hand power over' in TEN WEEKS.
Folks like Shinseki have been saying for more than a year that post-war Iraq will take several hundred thousand troops staying there for years- yet the Admin keeps dripping and dripping and dripping troops in by half measures and clerical feats that simply build a BIGGER problem. In two and a half months those 20,000 extended troops will be due to come one plus another THIRTY OR FOURTY troops will be scheduled for their normal rotation home.
This is a shit storm. Its not becoming a shit storm, its always been a roaring torrent of Bullshit predicated and powered by post sept-11th fear mongering and statements made with lest then stirling honesty. Its becoming absolutely manifest, but instead of this country RATIONALLY sitting down and trying to think of a better plan, we have the Admin telling the partisans (who, like you, are daily demonstrating their admirable ability to believe anything they are told even in the face of reality written in 20 point type) that everything is just fine, and that everything is under control.
You make snide remarks here about Bush Bashing. Okay, point scored. But I'll tell you what is just as disheartenting and disgusting to watch. Bush Obedience! You and the rest of the partisans have turned Iraq into a black-and-white BIG PICTURE. People are eaither Good Republicans (Defined as Pro-War, Liking Bush, Trusting the Admin regardless of how many times they are wrong, Believing the History Revisions about the war and aiding and parroting every smear of every public critic like Clarke, Shenseki, O'Neil and Woodward), or they are Nasty Liberals (defined as people who place a negation in front of any of the aforementioned criteria).
So I'm frankly sick of it, at least for now. I get more enrichment from arguing with Born Again Christians about the existence or non-existence of God. Hell, the reasoning employed is exactly the same.
So you tell me why I should post more on CE? Are you going to alter ANY of your opinions? Nope, thought so.
