Nice Trap

Ask for the impossible (proving a prediction in the future) then condemn them for not doing it. You would have us do nothing until the dire predictions are proven true beyond doubt. You keep asking for scientific proof which requires lives be lost and economic damage and ignoring how decisions are made in everyday life based on best guesses and/or preponderance of evidence, not absolute certainty. Actions are taken everyday by most people that have potential negative consequences (like driving to work) because the positive impact of the action or the negative impact of not taking the action (loosing a days pay) are deemed far worse. We don't just look at the asbsolute values of the lossses or gains, but rather the expected value resulting from the probability of the gain or loss times its value. Few do this analytically, but most do it from a gut feel standpoint of "that's too unlikely for me to worry about" even when the risk is catastrophic (death etc).

The probability that ever increasing CO2 emmisions will have no effect is virtually nil. There is no rational reason to believe increased CO2 levels will not cause global warming and plenty of reason to believe they will. The only question is when and how much.

Mark
