The machinery is operated and maintained by artisans.

Even the janitor who sweeps up the flour dust is an artisan of sorts, you don't have to be a master pastry chef to be an artisan, some forms of work require more skill and experience than others, but they should all have dignity. Or is it that there are two kinds of people, those that work in the shop, and those that work in the office? Blue collar and white? Employee and manager?
The lazy and stupid and dependent, or the ambitious and smart and entrepreneurial?

The only difference between the senior vice president in charge of marketing and the guy who drives a delivery truck is different skill level, which is presumably compensated appropriately. The idea that some kinds of work are better in kind, (as supposed to just in degree) than others is the justification that allows these men to actually believe they have the right to plunder a company like this. "Those guys on the shop floor are just employees. They don't really matter like we do." The guys in suits are not owners or major stockholders or entrepreneurs or capitalists. They are just hired hands like the people they are looting.
