The thread doesn't exist in a vacuum, and indeed you began with a trademark cryptic "here" link to material that's part of the larger conservative shriekfest. Starting a thread with somebody else's words, and then on this branch focusing on my choice of one word and ignoring all else...gee, I think I've seen it before. Several thousand times, in fact.
But that's OK, I'm used to it. My compliment to alcaray, Buck, and ER for doing the work of debunking the automatic (or do I mean "autonomic"?) negative frame stands.
My use of Twain's quote, "A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is still putting on its shoes", was a pointed reference to the tactic of reacting quickly with a ready-made negative frame, to try to preempt any other point of view from taking hold. I've seen that one several thousand times before, too. It's pathetic that it works so often on a public with a short attention span, but here we like to take a little time and dissect the issues. Kudos to the guys for persisting even when the opportunity to change the larger public conversation has already passed. You may start out with "the home field advantage" by posting first, but the format here erodes that advantage the longer the conversation goes on.
(I guess that reflection was triggered by Jeff-Wash's remarks over on OT about what the Zone used to do so well. Taking a little time and getting it right is one of those things, and I'm inclined to encourage it.)
