Fawning admiration of private enterprise might be a lot more convincing from someone who actually was meeting a payroll. Hell, in some cases, it would be nice if they were even on somebody's payroll themselves.
Every American male is convinced he is an expert lover, driver, football coach, and business manager. If he can't demonstrate expertise or success in the latter, he falls on the usual excuse, the Socialists and unions are obstructing him with taxes and regulations.
The market is unforgiving. Those who can't be hammers, must be nails. And being a nail is humiliating and painful, especially for those who feel they are entitled to be hammers.
