re: Maybe your premises are wrong.

Maybe, but I was trying to avoid premises and focus on the evidence, as anecdotal as it is. We can identify political eras--Presidential terms--in which there was both general prosperity and the creation of great wealth.

It's important to keep the facts straight:

the guy who runs the small business that hires maybe ten to fifty people. Maybe he's a millionaire, and maybe that only if you count his business assets.

Income taxes don't affect assets, you're thinking of capital gains. A small business owner drawing a moderate salary is taxed on a moderate salary.

It's also important to pay attention to logic:
The other factor is that raising somebody's taxes by 5 percent or 10 percent isn't going to keep George Soros from living the high life on what's left. It's the guy trying to make a small payroll or get the bills paid who's going to take it in the chin.

Conversely, a tax cut of 5 percent at the top does proportionately as little to benefit the guy trying make a payroll or pay the bills.

Shoehorning small business owners into the category of the wealthy is pure political rhetoric. Small business owners are members of the middle class, and declining purchasing power and real income makes it clear that Bush has been bad for the middle class.
