You forget that Kuwait happened 14 years ago...

...and we trounced Saddam, leaving him perfectly impotent. Years of sanctions and inspections left his military infrastructure in a shambles. He spent most of his nation's assets building palaces, erecting statues and lying low. His political influence is world affairs was non-existent. The second Gulf War was completely unnecessary.

Our priorities are screwed up wrong. Here we have North Korea capable of delivering a ballistic missile to Seattle, while the longest distance any missile in Saddam's arsenal could reach was around 130 miles. And with North Korea well on its way to producing nuclear weapons, we are spinning our wheels in Iraq over so-called weapons of mass destruction that simply did not exist and arguing over whether forged documents about Niger yellowcake was sufficient "intelligence" to call for war.

The sanctions and inspections were working. Saddam Hussein was effectively defanged and irrelevent to American foreign policy. Maintaining the tight screws on his regime was costing us a pittance of the hundreds of billions this reckless war has cost, without any real risk to American soldiers.

938 American soldiers have died because George Bush claimed Iraq was a threat to Americans. This wasn't true. Unfortunately, before we're through, the Bush death count will continue to rise into the thousands. Lives wasted for no good cause.
