Start with a good star atlas...

... the simpler the better. It should show the Messier objects and some of the better known NGC objects.

Learn the constellations if you don't know them already.

Subscribe to Astronomy magazine. Each month they showcase a constellation and the major objects in them and how to find them. It's another good way to learn the constellations and they also cover the basic workings of the telescope and stuff like CCD's and other accessories. Sky and Telescope is good too but targeted at the more pointy headed Astronomer- IMO.

If you get into it, you should think about buying Burnham's Celestial Handbook. I covers all the constellations with detailed summaries of the objects they contain. (Wonder what printing it's on now?)

You might want to buy a Barlow lens or "doubler" to augment your eyepieces. It looks like you have a 6X30 view finder. You might want upgrade sometime to something a little larger- I know, I had a 6X30.

From the reviews I've read, Orion is a quality scope. You’re in for a mind blowing treat when you view the planets- live, from your own backyard.

Congratulations,

Rob

PS Your scope looks very portable. If you don't have darks skies maybe a short trip into the Idaho hills would be worth the gas some time...
