re: Maintenance is a huge issue

I was wondering if a flying car equipped with a GPS type guidance system would be feasible price wise. I agree that price is going to be a huge issue and also safety.

This could possibly be a remedy for the 'idiot' pilot/driver problem. Each flying vehicle could have it's own GPS computer/guidance system. The operator could enter in his origin and destination, download the info into a ground based regional databank and then be assigned a unique ID number and flight plan. After the flight plan is received, the flying vehicle could autopilot itself and passenger to the destination without human intervention. And, since all vehicles have unique flight plans maybe that would remedy in air collisions. The only problems I see are takeoff and landing unless we could cost effectively develop the technology to do that too.

I believe we have most of the technology now to make all of this happen, but it would probably make the vehicle so expensive that only a millionaire could afford one. You think?

I'm just throwing this out there. I don't know the first thing about piloting a plane and aviation.
