re: You may want to...

Garage is a separate building. Most of it has been insulated, but the door isn't, and there's no attic floor insulation. Fortunately, most of the year the climate is moderate. The new shingles pick up more heat than the old wooden shakes did, but I feel a lot better now during windstorms and bottle-rocket season.

The Toyotomi free-standing AC does a good job, and blows the heat through a dryer-like corrugated duct to the outside. I have to empty the condensation tank when it fills up. Too lazy to rig a hose deal. If I had waited another year to buy it, I could have gotten a new heat-pump model (heats AND cools.) &%$#$%.

With a computer out here, AC is as much a matter of function as comfort.

As it is, a small fan heater does a pretty good job in the winter.
