I wish I could find a reference anywhere in this literature that indicated a charity, though. I bet they bought the silver special, since they get so excited about it. If not, I think they'd get arrested for looting or something.

The website doesn't do justice to the presentation made by the commercial, which may have been the reason I was so aghast instead of merely weirded out. It wasn't one of those solemn, dramatically lit, "bald eagle carrying a flag flying over Mount Rushmore at night with fireworks and maybe Elvis" hand-painted porcelain plate-type of commemorative item commercial, which I think would have softened the blow. Keep an eye out for it.

It started out as just one of those typical enthusiastic pitches for a One Hundred Percent Genuine Liberian Currency, A Keepsake For Future Generations!!!! with a typical over-the-top design, you know, one of the fistful of eyesores that are churned out each year and don't do anything but trick my and others' grandparents into sinking half their savings into nonsense. The guy went on to say that this Real Currency United States Silver Dollar!!!! was clad in 100 Mil Point Nine-Nine-Nine Pure Silver!!!!...blah, blah, blah, I'm thinking...DIRECTLY FROM THE SITE OF GROUND ZERO!!!! WE FOUND IT IN A DESTROYED VAULT!!!!...and I thought, Holy God in Heaven help me, that is the most scary-clown-ish morbid thing I've ever heard. All I could think of for a while after that was a companion commemorative gold Reichsmark clad in pure 24-karat gold extracted from the actual teeth of exterminated Jews (WE FOUND IT IN A CREMATORIUM!!!!). Ecch.

Maybe you're right, and it's just that their marketing team is "te hsuck". God, I hope so.
