The only reason I voted Libertarian that year is that I found my polar opposite of who I intended to vote for and we agreed together to vote for the independent candidate. That way, neither of us adversely affected the candidate of the major parties we were intending to vote for. One vote each was stripped of of both Gore and Bush. Of course we both knew the candidate we voted for would not win but that candidate got 2 more votes than he normally would have. The only way that the major parties are going to begin to move towards the center is if they see a substantial number of votes starting to go for the independent candidates.
During that election, I have to admit too that, of the two major candidates, I thought I could live with either of them getting into office since Bush was touting himself as a compassionate conservative, something that now seems to be an outright misrepresentation. This time however, the stakes are much higher. Bush and his holy crusade must be stopped and quickly before we move this country any further towards a theocracy. That one issue to me is above all others and clearly affects so many other issues I'm passionate about. You and I will simply never see eye to eye in that regard.
