Sounds like observation bias to me

but my problem is every time I look at something stupid Kerry does, Bush does something twice as stupid.

It seems that you're convinced that Bush is stupid and Kerry isn't. So, when Kerry does something really stupid (like the whole way he is conducting his campaign, his constant flip-flopping, "Lambert Field", etc.), then anything Bush does just has to be dumber.

Other than his vocabulary, I have not seen much evidence that Kerry is as intelligent as so many claim. Do you have any evidence, such as transcripts or things he's accomplished, that show him to be intelligent?

Likewise, Bush is not articulate. Some people automatically assume anyone with a southern accent is stupid, a form of bigotry that dies slowly. We do have records to indicate Bush's academic and other accomplishments. Sure, his grades were in the C range, but that was in the days before rampant grade inflation like we have today.

Unlike Kerry, Bush as put his records out there. Kerry has a tendency for secrecy (his military records, his academic records, his "secret plan" to solve the problems in Iraq, his medical records, his wife's tax records, etc.) Rather (no pun intended) Nixonian of him, especially when his apparent paranoia as judged by his reflexive "they're attacking my patriotism" every time someone discusses his Senate voting record.
