Understanding the extreme of American Christianity

Hello Raoul -

What you need to understand is that in the 1970s, Jerry Falwell was using the mass mailing of letters to raise funds. He was so successful that he ran out of computer time, and bought time from Wyland Services in Culpeper, Virginia. The firm was located there because of data lines, and those data lines were available becuase of a nuclear emergency relocation center in the area.

Wyland developed techniques of sampling, so that the mass mailings could be targeted. This was an extremely effective fund raising technique at that time, and used by anti-abortion forces, anti-equal rights forces, anti-labor union forces, anti-gun control forces, anti-arms control forces, anti-Panama Canal treaty forces, etc...

These mailing lists were used by Ronald Reagan in his campaign for Presidency.

The other significant technology which you need to understand is "talk radio". Here, the host usually confirms his listeners in their thinking, whether factually erroneous or not. These shows are quite successful, as Americans do their best to avoid ugly truths.

In this regard, "religious broadcasters" are given free licenses for bandwidth, a valuable commercial propperty, which they can later sell.

While collapse appears to have been postponed, mainly due to a remarkable series of fortunate events, you can be assured that if this mess collapses, Americans will not be able to understand why.
