Ok, I'm gonna get it from both sides on this one. lol

Iran is going to develop missiles and nukes so they can hit Israel with a preemptive strike? I have to tell you that when I read that (which I think is a pretty far-fetched scenario), a little evil light went on in my head that moved my neurons to ask: "Would that be a bad thing for the rest of the world?"

Now I feel terribly guilty about that little dark side of me but I know there's some logic that triggered it. First of all, let me get it out here with apologies to any of you that might be Jewish. I think our propping up of Israel is a monumental mistake in foreign policy. I have this feeling that our country's primary motivation in the overwhelming support we give to that area is simply that it's where Jesus lived. When you subtract that factor, whatever gains we get by having a democratic ally in the middle of that hotbox is completely offset by the alienation of the countries around them.

Now as for the nuclear attack. I'm not an ogre and am completely repulsed by any death and pain brought on by warfare from any kind of weapon but I think that our world may need another nuclear wakeup in the form of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. My little evil voice is saying to me that if it's going to happen somewhere, what better scenario than the following:

1. It's not us this time initiating the attack.

2. The attack is not aimed at us.

3. If Iran attacks first, they will inflict a major blow but Israel's overwhelming numerical superiority in nukes will unleash a horrific counterattack to Iran. The radical element to Islam will be blamed for initiating the carnage.

4. The global revulsion to the horrible aftermath of such an exchange might be the nail in the coffin to nuclear proliferation worldwide.

Am I the only one with such evil little thoughts?
