I've got nothing aainst law-abiding gun owners either.
More of my family and friends own guns than don't. Each one of them is a nice person. I think the probability of any of them committing a violent act is a very small non-zero number.
If new emission legislation came out for cars, and I had a Lamborghini that needed work to remain legal, I guess I'd either get the work done or look for a new car. There probably wouldn't be a negotiation. There'd just be a choice.
The law changes over time. It's not an invitation to the bargaining table, it's an invitation to continue obeying the law.
