This morning, Mrs. Edwards said she didn't think there would be any violence if the Democrats win. I agree, Republicans aren't likely to take to the streets. Some of the more rabid Democrats out there do concern me, though. There has been many documented cases of violence and vandalism against Republican campaign offices and signs this silly season, with fewer known cases of Democrat signs being defaced. The level of BDS is so high that violence is a possibility, especially if the election is close.

One of the burdens of the Secret Service is the sad fact that any president, no matter who he is or what party he represents, is the target of some seriously deranged people who'd like to go down in history like John Wilkes Booth or Lee Harvey Oswald. The Secret Service has a very tough job, one that isn't made easier by grossly irresponsible outlets like the Brit newspaper that published a plea for someone to assassinate Bush.

One thing that might stir up widespread revulsion could be if, as threatened, Kerry claims victory no matter what the outcome and tries to tie up the election in the courts. I can't help but believe that millions of people would get very angry at that. Conversely, if people come to believe that voting doesn't matter because it'll be decided by the lawyers and the courts, then quite possibly voter turnout will plummet.
