How well they fit into this nation anymore.
Where torture is accepted, human rights ignored, and the rule of law is valued only if the law is convenient.
A nation where the majority seem to share the mentality of an ebnelson, the bigotry of a phil, the immaturity of a DFM.
Where people can disappear, where it's a felony to talk about the disappeared, and where conservatives use as proof no one has disappeared the fact that no one is talking about it.
A nation which has caused the deaths of over 100,000 Iraqis and Afghans allegedly avenging WTC, the vast majority of those people as innocent as the folks in WTC.
A people who don't care that each of those innocent people were mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters.
It rather rattles one to think that a majority of the people around them could be like Mark Eby, or REB, or the rest of the True Believers, with the combined compassion of a starving cobra.
That's what's scary.
I think it's only natural to wonder how well one fits, what they could contribute.
Ironically, as far as leaving, my ancestors left countries much like this has become, to go to a place like the US was. A good friend of mine wrote his daughter in Italy, suggesting she not come home, it's not the home she left. The pendulum may have swung, and the lands of my grandparents have evolved into what they dreamed of finding.
It seems to have been a fairly won, and lost, election. One has to wonder what won, what lost, and what remains.
That won't be understandable to the New American. And that's how it should be. Some minds weren't meant to understand, it seems, but to follow. Quite possibly the majority of minds.
