Oh, come on. Were you listening to her at all over the past year?
Her comment that she would give her whole fortune to get her first husband back was priceless, and revealing.
A wife might think that. But it takes a person of astonishing lack of common sense to say it during her husband's presidential campaign, and astonishing lack of love and empathy to say it in her husband's hearing at all.
An elitist prima donna, she matches perfectly every single stereotype that the Left places on rich Republicans, yet gets a free pass on it since her politics are correct.
But all of what she says and does is "speaking her own mind." I find it hard to believe that if Te-RAY-sa was a Republican, she would be getting nearly this much praise from this columnist.
A few days before the election, I went to an event at the Cuban Club outside Tampa, Fla., where she was to speak. She was running behind schedule that day, and the mostly female crowd waiting for her was restive. There is only so much multitasking that can be accomplished on a folding chair when the speaker has already run 90 minutes late, and many women were murmuring about the children they had to pick up and jobs they had to get back to. Even one of the warm-up speakers joked that they should all get a free bottle of ketchup in recompense, and some in the audience eventually gave up, explaining themselves as they headed out the door.
But anyone who was expecting Heinz Kerry to run in, hair flying, and offer the kind of extended mea culpa that most of us are a little too good at … well, it never happened. Instead, when she did arrive, she was perfectly composed and offering no excuses. Me voila, my fellow Americans, now deal with it.
What the crowd got instead, however, was 45 minutes of cogent, even slightly wonky policy discussion—delivered softly, yet in terms so frank and full of feeling that it was a little jarring. (On early childhood intervention: “Either we do it like a Marshall Plan or let’s not pretend. If we don’t do this it’s not worth doing very much more. Why save? Why invest? If we’re not doing all we can for them, why bother? Why bother with anything else?â€) I’m only sorry we won’t have the chance to get over the jolt.
Incoherence projected as profundity is a hallmark of liberals. So is insensitivity and boorishness projected as independence.
