Every sensible person does the former, within the limits set by morals and good behavior.
The latter is no better in men than it is in women. In politics, Bill Clinton comes to mind. Everything is about him, and to hell with the effect on his family, or even his political career.
If a man were to honor his late wife, even though he has remarried, by saying he wishes she were still alive, he would be noble.
By who? Go ask any second wife you know how she would feel if her husband wished he were still married to his first wife. Especially if he said he would pay his entire billion-dollar fortune to have it be so.
Maybe I'm reading too much into the original statement:
"It was a very sad day when that happened. I'd rather have my husband alive than that money."
Honest, maybe. Evil, no. But someone concerned for someone else's feelings would have kept it to themselves.
And believe me, this is not the only example she has shown of a lack of concern for how her statements and behaviors affect others.
