Mark,
The problem is that we're doing the job for them. Its their country. Saddam was their dictator. If democracy was so important to them, it was their job to start the revolution, not ours. All we are doing now is creating a population that is resentful for our interfering in their own affairs.
This whole war in Iraq was a bad idea from the start. Conceived on failed intelligence and bad policy. Conducted with incredible incompetence. It will lead to no good. Unfortunately we're stuck. More Americans will have to die in order to "liberate" a population that never asked us to liberate them. Like the Palestinian/Israeli conflict, the debacle in Iraq will persist for years.
