Or won't be?
If you will carefully note, it took years of political and legal struggle to get to a point where affirmative action even became an issue in Constitutionally protected areas. Conservatives appear to want this benefit handed to them in a non-Constitutionally protected area with no effort beyond sticking out their lower lip and the only proof being that they say that liberals said mean things to them.
If it warrants legal action, let someone take legal action. That's what minorities have had to do before, and for much more egregious offenses than shouting somebody down because of his politics.
That's part of what the legal system is for: to judge what the standards are.
If conservatives are being discriminated against, let them provide more proof than op-ed columns. Let them treat it like a sex discrimination suit, in which incidents must be documented and sworn to in affidavits, and institutional intent must be demonstrated. I suspect that no one wants to go to the trouble, though. It's easier to complain about something one really doesn't care that much about than to mount a counterattack. I suspect that the object is less to be admitted to academia than to discredit it.
