You're apparently not reading many of the references that have been posted. Conservatives are not failing to apply for these academic jobs. They are being blackballed. I know somebody this happened to, and believe me, in the field of education, it isn't just in the area of "higher learning" either.

I don't believe that the government has any business telling a college who they can hire and who they can't, although in the case of universities that suck up a lot of Federal funding, the line gets a bit blurry, and God knows the government isn't shy about setting quotas in other areas.

The important thing to remember in all this is that our institutes of higher education are, by and large, teaching only one side of the issues. This doesn't bother liberals, of course, because it's THEIR side, and of course it's the right one.

You can come out of college a conservative/libertarian, but you have to work at it, and it isn't easy. I know. The main thing is to keep quiet in classes about your opinions, and feed the professors the crap they need to hear. A lot of kids come out as enthusiastic leftists, and don't come around until reality smacks them in the face over the next several years.
