Between man as natural man, and man as civilized man living in a society.
Natural man wants no restrictions, objects and revolts against them and accepts he has the right to kill as well as the need to be able to protect himself because some other natural man might want to kill him.
Civilized man wants all other men to be controlled to the extent that the controlls that constrain him, controll them and offer him protection.
Each of us is a combination of man in the natural state and man in the civilized state. This is the basis of stress. This is also part of the evolutionary process that started about 12,000 years ago when man started farming and thus gained neighbors who also started farming. Getting along, and politics began then also.
