re: Castro is in big trouble now - Cuba has oil

"Mr. Castro, in an announcement that raised eyebrows in the executive suites of energy companies here, disclosed that the Canadian companies had discovered estimated reserves of 100 million barrels. That was the good news. It was also the bad news. "

That there is a 100 million barrel reserve somewhere around Cuba is basically not news. What would be news would be is there wasn't at least this amount in Cuba. [Btw, Anzr has a hundred times this amount {and the Left is saying that Anzr's tens of Billions of barrels of reserve is an insignificant amount}].
A 100 million reserve might produce 2 milllion barrels per year, the world produces over 20,000 million barrels per year, so it's a possible production of 1/100th of 1 percent [.01 %]- btw it happens to be a smaller percentage than the quantity of CO2 in our atmosphere.
Or another way to see this, is there is somewhere around 10 times this amount of known reserves in California, which are within hundred miles of where I'm living [LA, California], which is currently not being mined- not due to rational & economic reasons but because of "political reasons". And more locally, there are numerous comparable sized reserves remaining which have been and continue to be constantly mined over the past few decades [hardly the stuff of news and barely noticed by most of the inhabitants of LA- actually, issues regarding water are more monetarily significant and more likely in the news. Afterall, LA was a desert region, not mostly built by oil, but by water].
