Actually, if anything, I think the present course of action will reduce the chance of a nuclear weapon being detonated in America.
Certainly, keeping our heads in the sand and hoping the U.N. and Europe will sort things out isn't going to protect us.
I'm sorry, who said this was the choice? I never did. Its called a false dichotomy, very related to the strawman argument, and its akin to anomalist thinking.
"We have established on this board that there is massive opposition to using major military force against rogue nations."
Oh, have we? I have just observed a massive opposition to doing this in Iraq, but that seems to be a lost point on you. Point of fact, over half the folks here who lined up against the Iraq war were all for the idea of using force in Afghanistan. I think the point here is that there is massive opposition for using force where its not called for, not reasonable to believe it will work, and is morally/ethically dubious to do so. But for you to actually honestly represent the philosophical persepctives of those you throw your crap at would be both granting them a non-charicature position AND actually listening to what they say, which "We have established on this board" is beyond your capacity.
"Now, apparently we are establishing that infiltration, gathering of real intelligence, small-scale precision strikes and covert operations are also verboten to the Reality-Based crowd."
Really? Have you even bothered asking what I think about, in theory, using force against Iran? Have you even lowered yourself to bothering asking me or anyone else here what our views and perspectives are? No, you assume. Point of fact, that seems to be all you are capable of WRT the 'other side' of any political argument.
"The U.N. isn't accomplishing one damn thing in Iran.
"
Point of fact, Tom, the UN != Europe, or did your oh-so-erudite and objective blogs teach you otherwise?
"So, what are YOUR brilliant ideas for fixing this? What SHOULD we be doing about Iran? "Adapt" how?"
This isn't really an offer to engage me in consensus building discussion, this is an attempt to hijack the conversation into contingencies, modalities and fantasies. The appeal to "My dad could kick your dads butt" argument.

- Interesting. And, you'll notice it's about Iran, not North Korea or Pakistan.
