The observations that Iraq has lots of oil in the ground, lots of fresh water (arguably more valuable in the Middle East) and a relatively well education secularly inclined population are very interesting. Iraq is in the toilet because it has been ruled by extreme scumbags for several decades. If Iraq could establish a decent government with some sort of rule-of-law, that country could easily take off and become the undisputed power house of the Middle East. All the raw ingredients are there. Talk about "low hanging fruit"! No wonder the Russians, Frogs and Krauts are pissed off. They were making their play through Saddam. Instead, we knocked Saddam out of the driver's seat and now our guys will be running the show. This is like something out of Frank Herbert's "Dune".
