I'd rather know that some of our commanders think that violence is fun than have them get diplomacy lessons to prevent us from knowing. They will still be who they are, whether they learn to talk pretty or not.
Some people join the military out of patriotism. Some join because they need a job. Some join in order to defend a way of life -- democracy, the Queen, what-have-you. Some join because it's a family tradition. And some people join the military because it's fun to hurt [some] people and break things, just as some people join the fire department because they like fires, and may set a big one one day.
It helps to hear commanders make statements like this because it keeps that last point in the public eye. We need to remember that this too is part of the military. They aren't all Good Samaritans in camo.
