Thanks for the rethink on He3 - maybe the Moon's supply will allow us to burn it ~ He3 + He3 => He4 + 2H. Apparently the ignition temperature is lower than D-T reactions.

As for the Lunar beanstalk, see Jerome Pearson's papers at Star Tech Inc. He is currently doing a NIAC study on Lunar Beanstalks which are in essence a near-term prospect if you want to land/lift a few hundred tons a year on the Moon.

The SPS demonstrater is long, long overdue.
