In what ways....

is Mars superior to Antartica for colonization. The Martian biosphere is at best as unfriendly as Antartica and we have had little success in maintaining a long term human presence in Antartica.

I am as anxious as anyone to get humanity established off planet but to call Mars a better place to live vs the Moon is a stretch when you consider the distances involved.

Any attempt to colonize Mars will be well served by a permanent base on the Moon. The fact is, we are not going to go and stay anywhere until we learn more about the long term effects of reduced gravity and radiation exposure. We can learn that 250,000 miles away vs 30,000,000.
