I was looking through my National Geographic CD-ROM and I came across this interesting picture

It came out of the March 1964 issue from the article "How we Plan To Put Man on the Moon."

I wonder why they didnâ€™t go with this landing approach for the Gemini and Apollo capsules. Maybe it wasnâ€™t very KISS?
