I will wholeheartedly support capital punishment when it can be shown to be a deterrent. Meanwhile, I do not support granting the government the right to take lives and then spend more dollars to execute that it costs to incarcerate for life.
The old complaint that life in prison would be fine if we would just do it doesn't hold up. We can do it if we choose and the odd case that is released from prison would probably be an argument against the DP more than for it.
If I were a victim's friend or kin I would, no doubt, support the killing but I would be the only person with that right and under the law I should be recused.
The DP is cruel and unusual and no less barbaric than the Muslim law allowing the victim's family to choose the manner of execution and be the executioner.
