The "Official Story" on the Left right now is that the Soviet Union was not a threat, was NEVER a threat, that their militarism was a response to the horrible U.S. military/industrial complex, and that if only the U.S. had unilaterally disarmed and moved out of Europe then the Soviets would have become peaceful and happy, and turned their missiles and tanks into plowshares.
Hungary? Czechoslavakia? Afghanistan? Never heard of them. Gulags? What are those?
The Berlin Wall? It was to keep Western spies out. The fall of the Soviet Empire was inevitable, and Reagan was lucky enough to be in office when Gorbachev, the brilliant Nobel winner, engineered it all.
As you've noticed, it takes about five minutes of talking to anyone who emigrated from the U.S.S.R. or Eastern Europe to catch a clue.
You think that revisionism is good, wait until you see what the Left says about Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Afghanistan, and all the rest in twenty years.
