The fact that some people disagree doesn't mean there is a case to be made. Last I checked there is still a flat-earth society and chemtrails clubs.
But the accumulation of such things becomes troublesome. More than one nurse has filed such an affidavit.
Over thirty hearings, Tom. In front of over a dozen different judges. Where scores of medical experts have testified, where the eventual fact has been determined that TS has nothing more than autonomic function.
Just because she doesn't fit the TV-Movie depiction of someone in an irreversable coma doesn't mean she isn't in one.
Beyond the mere irrevocable facts of the case, there has been every drop of due process given to the 'other side'. Rights have been respected, everyone has been given the hearing they are entitled to by law.
As for his Lawyer, the man has had to somehow arrange payment for over a decade of total care. If a fairly good lawyer with an agenda is willing to work for little money and getting his agenda tickled, what is he supposed to do?
"It is obvious, given his behavior, that the husband doesn't care much for his wife."
Like usual, you are drinking the Kool-Aid. Mr. Schiavo is an unfeeling demon, the parents are just asking for a hearing. etc etc.
Mr. Schiavo, for 4-5 years, ignored what the experts were telling him and the family all along and held out hope for Terry. He attended therapy with her body, trying expensive and experimental physical manipiulative procedures hoping that the stimulation would re-awaken parts of her brain. For 4 years he held on and fought for her, fought with her. As a last resort, he got Terry into a experimental coma treatment program that involved direct brain stimulation. No result.
After almost 5 years of trying he began to realize that Terry was dead in every real sense of the word. He wanted to have children, he wanted to have a life. He had a right to move on, and he has.
His story is that he has remained the legal guardian (or effect thereof) because he knew that Terry wouldn't want to linger like that, and he realized her parents would never respect that. A final obligation to his deceased wife.
after five years the man had a right to move on with his life.

There is *ALWAYS* another side

- Just wondering....
- We already beat people with intact brains to death, so your point is...?
- Wasn't the "right to die" a theme of Heinlein's? (n/t)
- That was terribly inappropriate, and I think you know it. (n/t)
- Why don't you try some intellectual honesty in your pondering?
- Every city in the country uses this practice every day
- One of the cheaper shots I've seen. Entirely inaccurate, and is appropriate for Flame, though.
- Had you just finished reading.....
